My name is Huy Tran and I work as a Process Engineer at TPG. Currently, I am
a candidate for the Master of Science in Business Analytics at Cal Poly Pomona.
After my undergrad, I found I really enjoyed the analytical projects at work.
However, I felt my understanding of statistics and data analytics was insufficient
and I needed to learn more. Therefore, I chose the MSBA program, seeking to do just that.
The program, while new, has provided hands-on learning true to Cal Poly Pomona's approach.
The technical training broadened my ability to think logically, increased analyzing speeds,
and provided me with new ways to analyze data.
Recently, I used Python to create a data cleaning script to quickly automate a task that would
have taken someone 2-3 hours. Then, I used natural language processing to identify maintenance issues
on the company's mobile equipment. I can foresee myself applying more machine learning to my current work
and I am excited to finish the rest of the courses. In addition, thanks to the optimization class, I was
invited to teach at a vocational school on supply chain optimization and I am getting visibility across
multiple businesses. Overall, the program is not without the flaw, and the faculty are working hard on
improving it better every term. I encourage any analytical mind that enjoys hands-on learning to participate
in the future.
